Popeyes: To be the world’s best quick service restaurant. Being the best means providing outstanding quality service, cleanliness, and value, so that makes every customer in every restaurant smile. SWOT Analysis: Strengths: The strength of Popeyes is based on its distinctive brand and style of Louisiana spicy chickens that it provides on its menu along with its chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, fried shrimps and other seafood, jambalaya, red beans and rice and other regional items. Popeyes is a highly differentiated brand with passion for its New Orleans heritage n flavorful authentic foods. Weakness: Popeyes is second to its sister company KFC. About 90% of their domestic restaurants are concentrated in Tennessee and Louisiana. Most of their restaurants are located in heavily populated African-American neighborhoods; giving them higher chances of being robbed and giving them a higher close-out outlook. Opportunities: Popeyes serves the food that the world craves and is continuing to expand its global reach. Popeyes operates and franchises 1,977 restaurants in 45 states and 26 foreign countries and out of the 1,977 restaurants 1,542 of them are domestic franchise restaurants and 397 of them are international franchises. Approximately 55% of the international franchises are located in South Korea, Canada and Turkey. Threats: Most of Popeyes’ locations can be founded in urban neighborhoods. The local competition on neighborhood fried chicken restaurant offer lower price to Popeyes’ corporate pricing. There are poor customer base in certain areas and natural disasters. The SWOT analysis for the future of Popeyes looks to be great. Due to more consumer wanting the taste and feel of â€Å"southern hospitality† style food, many franchises are starting to pop up in many neighborhoods across America and internationally. When it comes to the marketing aspect of Popeyes, the company markets itself to a non-southern resident base that has always wanted to experience the idea of â€Å"southern hospitality†. Popeyes goes with the idea of being â€Å"Louisiana Fresh and Bonafide Fried Chicken†. With its combination of southern spices, herbs and regional foods on its menu; Popeyes brings the flavors of Louisiana to your taste buds. The advantage that Popeyes have over their competition is that they cater to a more diverse and international customer base. They offer and have both domestic and international franchising if an individual domestic or foreign wanted to franchise a Popeyes location. Their international franchising extends as far as South Korea. It is owned and operated by Yum Brands; the same company that owns and operate KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. One distinct advantage is that all Popeyes franchises do not share the same building as you see a Pizza Hut and a Taco Bell or a KFC and a Taco Bell. One major improvement that I feel Popeyes should improve upon is its domestic in minority based neighborhood for the safety of its employees and monetary losses and its minority base advertisement concept. They should appeal to all neighborhoods and advertise to the appeasement of all. Popeyes sells chicken so their â€Å"target market† is anybody who likes chicken. So to make it more sensible, their target markets are young, single individuals, married couples and families and older citizens who do not time at home to be in the kitchen at all times. Their age group goes as low as five and as high as 65. You can now see Popeyes in all sort of neighborhoods: Black, White, Hispanic and Asians just to name a few. If you ever work in a Popeyes, you will see the diversity of the people who like fried chicken. The opportunity for growth in this target market is great. Because as the current market ages, they are still going to be consumers of the same products as they have been and will encourage those that they bring along to be consumer of the same products as well. One obstacle they should be concerned about as a company on the rise is â€Å"disinterest† due to the lack of creativity if they do not become more imaginative and creative. As a human, the mind gets boring after doing and having the same thing over and over. They should also be concerned of a stiffer competition market from their competitors. Everybody wants to be the number one brand that is preferred but it is the company who is always thinking ahead and calculating risk and rewards to be the preferred brand that stays the preferred brand. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC): The Kentucky Fred Chicken mission statement is â€Å"To sell fast food in a fast, friendly environment that appeal to pride conscious, health minded consumers†. Vision Statement: Food, Fun & Festival, this is what KFC is all about. Leading the market since its inception, KFC provides the ultimate chicken meals for a Chicken Loving Nation. Be it Colonel Sanders secret original Recipe Chicken or Hot & Spicy Version, every bite brings YUM on our face. At KFC we can proudly say, â€Å"We Do Chicken right†. SWOT Analysis:  Strengths: Kentucky Fried Chicken is a very famous chain of quick-service chicken restaurant that started from Louisville, Kentucky. The company is became a sub-brand of Yum Brands in the year 2002 and benefitted greatly from the position and brand value of Yum foods. In the past, KFC chain of restaurants grew at a very fast pace and has become today one of the largest chicken restaurants chain in the world. KFC has been known to be an innovator in the chicken restaurant segment with an annual sale of more than a billion dollars. The KFC as a brand is well established in the dining out as well as delivery service provider in the fast food industry. Despite the entrance and presence of many competitors in the fast food industry the company was able to retain its large loyal customer base because of its unique offering. Due to this reason the KFC ranks highest when it comes to chicken restaurant chains, convenience restaurants and variety food provider. KFC currently has more than fifty percent of the market share in fast food industry and the new competitions are finding it very difficult to capture any of its share. Over the years KFC has gained great recognition as a reputable brand for fast food even after the death of Col. Sanders and has globally positioned itself well in the industry. Weaknesses: When other companies in the chicken industry were trying to increase its market share; KFC were not able to compete well in the market or retain its customers. Also the special paper buckets that is now used by the KFC for delivering large sized orders was originally introduced by Wendy’s restaurant. The company has entered so many markets in the past in the United States that its growth rate was about only one percent a year. KFC has said not to pay attention to its resource and development. Opportunities: KFC has been trying to enter new markets and position itself in some of the hard to enter markets like South America. With more investments; the company can definitely make its position stronger in the food industry. More spending on the resources and development as well as introducing new food items and products KFC can increase its market share and profits. Threats: The competitors of KFC have successfully captured a large market share. According to findings McDonalds has about 35 percent of the share in Sandwich Segment whereas the Burger King owns about sixteen percent of the market share in fast food industry. The local restaurants in different countries where KFC has presence pose a threat to the company. The baby boomers formed the major part of the loyal customers of the company that now have ages between 35 to 50 years and are likely to move towards healthier foods. The other competitors in the industry are continuously improving and trying to enter new markets and increase their market share and sales. With the lifestyle of people changing due to growing awareness about healthier food people now look for something healthy, low calories and delicious at the same time. KFC as a company is doing well in its global positions and how it is the number one preferred brand in the â€Å"quick-service chicken† restaurant industry. KFC and more accurately, owners of KFC, Yum! Brands Inc. is the foreign company with the largest presence in China. KFC dominates the fast food market in China and is well over twice as large as McDonald’s there. KFC implemented a better strategy than McDonald’s in China. While McDonald’s tried to stay true to their menu and kept their product offering in China somewhat similar to what the rest of the world knows (burgers and fries); KFC incorporated local dishes with their famous fried chicken. They also looked more to local employees to make big decisions instead of just taking their instructions from the U. S. headquarters. This allowed KFC to enter the hearts, minds and stomachs of more Chinese people. KFC have many advantages over their competitors in terms of production, innovation, and ways of appealing to the satisfaction of their target market. Since its introduction into the American way of life, KFC has managed to always keep its original startups but yet adding new favorable additions to suit the needs of each generation. KFC provides a quick and easy meal. It can also be bought in large amounts. KFC can improve on its customer service at certain locations. Even though its mostly a franchising based company but yet the franchisee should take it upon themselves to train better and better equip their franchises to hand the demands of their negative aspects of their stores. The interesting area for growth with KFC is in its international markets. If KFC can take the same approach that it took when it franchised in China, the results will be more international investments from different individuals who see the opportunity as a way to invest in something new. With being the number one international â€Å"quick-service chicken† restaurant, there can instances where language barrier can play a factor in transitioning into the newer markets. And also they should be concerned with the pricing they implement in those new markets that they explore as well.

Design for a Deep Space Communications System

The communication system will comprise of a redundant dual-band transmission channel, namely an S-band system and an X-band system. The S-band system will be designed specifically for providing tracking, telemetry and control, while the X-band will be used exclusively for telemetry and scientific data. These systems will operate within their specified ranges (S-band: transmit – 2290-2300 MHz, receive – 2110-2120 MHz, X-band: transmit – 7145-7190 MHz, receive – 8400-8450 MHz[1]) as would be specified by the ____Governing body____. The basic mission requirements and assumptions have changed since the general specifications laid out in Assignment 3, primarily that the satellite must land on, or come in contact with, the comet at some point rather than perform a fly-by. With this in mind, the individual components that will be used on the communications system are detailed in the following sections Antennas: There will be both an omnidirectional S-band helical antenna[2], specifically designed for telemetry and commands, as well as a 2.2 metre high-gain antenna[3], akin to the Rosetta satellite antenna. This antenna has optimal performance within both S- and X-band frequencies and both are manufactured by RUAG Space AG, based in Switzerland. Transponder: The system will incorporate two redundant small deep-space transponders (SDST’s) [4], developed by General Dynamics and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. This device combines a number of communication functions – receiver, command detector, telemetry modulator, exciter, beacon generator and control functions all into one package. This transponder has Ka-band capability as well for future missions, which comprises of a second X-to-Ka band multiplier. Envelope Size: 7.13†L x 6.55†W x 4.50†H Mass: 7.0 lbs (3.2 kg) Input Supply Power: Receiver Only: 12.5 W Receiver + X-band Exciter: 15.8 W Amplifiers: Two 17 W, 8.4 GHz solid-state power amplifiers[5], manufactured by General Dynamics will be implemented as smaller, lighter and less expensive alternative to the traveling-wave-tube X-band amplifier. These amplifiers are designed for use as a ‘companion unit’ to the SDST and can supply telemetry signals that can be connected directly to the SDST to make a complete transmitter/receiver with a single data interface. Maximum dimensions: 6.85†L x 5.275†W x 1.85†H Mass: 3.02 lbs (1.37 kg) Data interface: MIL-STD-1553B data interface Other components: Other smaller components include a diplexer, attached to the high-gain amplifier, which will allow the S- and X- band transmitter to use the same antenna, as well as allowing the antenna to be used for transmissions on one band and receive on another band. The system will also require a coupler to assign the amplifiers to the respective antennas as well as a hybrid coupler between the amplifiers and the transponders to allow either transponder to drive either amplifier without requiring active switching. Issues in Deep Space Communications: Compared with normal satellite communications, deep-space communications present a significant challenge – specifically from the distance resulting in low signal-to-noise ratio, propagation delays, corruption as well as environmental factors such as temperature variations and electromagnetic radiation. The satellite will be passing behind the Sun for a period of time, it is important to note that communication will be masked for a substantial period of time. One possible solution is to take advantage of NASA’s STEREO (Solar TERrestrial Relations Observatory) satellites in orbit around the sun to provide a link between the satellite-comet intercept point and Earth while the satellite is obscured.

At the trial, Deputy Lane County District Attorney Debra Vogt detailed how Smith encouraged the undercover investigator to abuse young children even saying how he himself abuses very young children because they cant tell on him (p. d1) Smiths defense lawyer John Halpern blamed Smiths weakening and eventual pedophilia to the wealth and accessibility of child pornography on the Internet. He further stated that prior to the Internet, Smith could not so easily have yielded to any weakness for child pornography that he might have. (p. d1) The judge in the case however didnt buy the defense. The rationale of ICT in schools

The rationale of ICT in schools ICT does not influence academic achievement. 1.0 Introduction From the first periods when computers were marketable existed, they could be discovered in use in educational association. Teachers had quarreled that computers should be used to support learning. Initially computers were used to teach computer programming but the growth of the microprocessor in the early 1970s saw the introduction of affordable microcomputers into schools at a fast rate. Computers and products of technology became more enveloping in society which then led to a interest about the need for computing skills in everyday life. As public awareness grew, this need for computer literacy became more powerful and many schools bought computers based on this principle. In 1990s was the year of computer communications and information access, particularly with the popularity and accessibility of internet-based services such as electronic mail and the World Wide Web. At the same time the CD-ROM became the standard for sharing packaged software. Until now, the development of computers still ongoing process becoming more advances every day. Today computers in schools are both a focus of study in technology education and a support for learning and teaching process. In Malaysia education, ICT known as Information Communication Technology was first established starting in year 2001 as Ministry of Education sees ICT as a process, not limited to the end itself. So, all attempts are focused in developing the new medium as items in the service of affluent curriculum, to improve teaching skills, more efficient organisational structures in schools, stronger link between schools and public, and the empowerment of deprived students. The Ministry trusts that suitably planned and implemented computing and communications have the latent to revolutionise education and improve learning as profoundly as information technology has transformed medicine, finance, manufacturing and numerous other sectors of society. Technology is not seen as a supplement whose mere existence in schools can speed up better educational results. Technology is also not seen as simply another subject in the curriculum, suited primarily for teaching students to use tools they may encounter as mature. The idea of ICT in education, as seen by the Ministry of Education, comprises a system that allows information gathering, organisation, handling, access, and communication in various forms. 1.1 ICT Policies in Malaysia Mevarech Light (1992) had discussed that when the potential use of computers in schools was first established, the main idea of the public was that students would be taught by computers and many of them offended this idea of teaching. They thought it was considered that the computer would take over the teachers job in much the same way as a robot may take over a mechanics job at the factory. In Malaysia as seen by Ministry of Education, they have implemented three policies related to the using of ICT in teaching and learning process especially in schools and universities. They currently have invented three main policies for ICT in education starting in the year 2001. The first policy is that of ICT for all students, significance that ICT is used as a medium to decrease the digital chasm between the schools. The second policy stresses on the role and function of ICT in education as a teaching and learning tool, as part of a subject, and as a subject by itself. Other than radio and television as a teaching and learning instrument, this policy highlights the use of the computer for accessing information, communication, and as a productivity tool. ICT as part of a subject directs to the applied of software in subjects such as Invention and Engineering Drawing. Information Technology and Computerisation are the subjects that referred to the ICT have been introduced in the sch ool timetable. The third policy highlights the using ICT to increase production, efficiency and effectiveness of the management system. ICT will be broadly used to mechanise work processes such as the processing of official forms, timetable, running of information systems, lesson preparation, financial draft and the care of account. 1.3 The Rationale of ICT in Schools It is needed to develop a very detailed rationale before beginning to use computers in schools and classrooms. There is no meaning in providing computers in schools unless such a rationale has been done. With the increasing availability of computer hardware, it is very crucial that teachers do not become involved in the machine but focus rather on their main role as teachers. Teachers need to widen their imaginations with the awareness that as developments in computer technology occur they will be able to achieve more of their objectives in teaching the students. Collis (1989) had described that these view of students sitting behind computer for much of the day have largely not occurred in mainstream schools, and most would not like this to be realised. Since the 1960s the computer has been established they had seen the computers as the solution to many problems in education. With this, many early computer scientists saw the possibility of the computer replacing teachers in schools. There are three main rationales for ICT in schools, one concerns the organisational productivity of the school, and the other two focus on the needs of students which are technological literacy and support for their learning. The two rationales are assisted by the Australian report Raising the Standards (DEST, 2002, p. 38) The need for ICT competent teachers stems from the need for ICT competent studentsand for ICT-rich learning environments that enhance students learning across the curriculum. Becker et al (1999) have said that despite from in a few excellent schools, computers had only a minimum effect on what happens in classrooms in the 20th century. There has been much argue over the purposes for this difference between the potential and what is realised. The computer is one of a type of technologies now available to teachers and students. In these cases a large amount of money was spent on these resources which some would argue would have been better spent on other resources. It is important that rare resources to support learning in schools are not wasted and therefore care needs to be taken in choosing to use computers to support learning. Historically, technology has been developed to answer problems, develop living standards. Therefore, it is reasonable that we should expect educational technology to be developed with similar objectives that is to increase the productivity and solve problems in teaching and learning syllabus. 2.0 Educational Technology Solves Problems Actually, computers are the best medium in resolving the problems that the teachers and students encounter. If the computer is a problem-solving machine then it must be applied to normal school problems such as those concerning student learning, teacher instruction, and school administration. Educational Technology should be selected on the source that it has the better features for the achievement of the curriculum. This subject should be used efficiently or better not used it at all as these involves the problem in the implementation of the curriculum, teachers who know how to use the technology effectively and teachers together with students who know how to work with the technology. There are many possible functions for computers in the learning process. In some conditions changes in related business makes computer use in schools necessary. For example, to provide courses in technical drawing, music, statistics, and business which do not incorporate computer use reduces the relevancy of the courses to the real world. Any reasons for the use of computers in the large section of schooling dedicated to basic education, such as mathematics, social science, science, communication and language, which are required more crucial examination. By considering the mathematics teaching area and the problems related with student learning. Mathematics has tended to be very abstract which they cannot see while most students are likely to work on a solid level. Using concrete materials in some teaching is practical but often not suitable. The computer can give experiences with virtual solid materials. In advancing the problems associated with curative and increase of students, computer can be use to provide appropriate material and overcome classroom management problems. However, a computer solution is not necessarily the best solution. The problems associated with student learning are most often discipline and even teacher specific. Therefore each teacher needs to think the problems associated with student learning in his/her subject area and be aware of the computer solutions. 3.0 Impact of ICT in Learning While academic discussions can be put ahead to give a strong reason for the use of ICT, the only real reason is based on whether, in practice, it has a positive impact on learning, the students, and teachers. While it would be suitable to be able to make a direct relationship between the use of ICT and learning result, most reliable researchers today would agree that there will never be a direct link because learning is mediated through the learning environment and ICT is only one element of that environment. Studies that have tried to identify this mediated effect of ICT on learning have found it impossible to entirely remove the effects of other aspect of learning environment. There is small reason in attempting to evaluate the cognitive results when using computers and with the uses of a textbook or some other resource such as articles and journals. This view is supported by Salomon (1994) as he argued that it is impossible to study the effect of computer function in the deficiency of the other reason or to assume that the only a cause independently effected the results outcomes (p. 80). Meanwhile, De Corte (1990) said that the educational goal is to implement the computer assist in the learning atmosphere rather than trying to separate its effect on learning. Using computers in learning is affected with ways of using the technology to make environments and learning states. There have been many years of educational research, not necessarily related to using computers but also on which to basic choices about suitable applications of computers to be learned. Mevarech and Light (1992) had suggested that the links between students attribute, learning environments, manners and schooling outcomes are essential and need further research, yet there has been much research which has considered these relationships in other background than ICT. If the objective is to offer new learning opportunities or to improve the way in which current learning activities are implemented then the overall effectiveness of learning environments and parts is of main concern, not whether they are more helpful with or without computers. Therefore in implementing computer applications, it is required to begin by choosing what a student, teacher or school wants to gain. To get these results, teachers can then depend on long practises of educational idea, their own experience and knowledge of the educational situation for example the student attributes, to make decisions about what the learning environment should look like and what information into the learning process are needed. A report from the ImpaCT2 study (Becta, 2002, p. 3) conducted in the UK found that, There is no consistent relationship between the average amount of ICT use reported for any subject at a given key stage and its apparent effectiveness in raising standards. It therefore seems likely that the type of use is all important. While there is no direct link between using ICT and student learning as the mass of proof now clearly shows that indirectly there can be a significant positive impact. Schachter (1999) had discovered that students who learned computer-based instruction scored at least sixty four percent on tests of achievement compared to students in the control conditions without computers who scored only at fifty percent. Laferrià ¨re, Breuleux, Bracewell (1999) had found that if the students are given right situation for access and use, there will be a significance gained in students learning with ICT. While, Becta (2002) learned that there are very clear differences in achievement related to the uses of ICT in more than half of all differences made between studentss expected scores and actual scores. 4.0 Conclusion As the conclusion, ICT have both its rationales and the reasons why this component should be implemented in the schools and universities although there are some negative impacts that will occur if ICT does not being use wisely. These changes should also support better use of ICT to support learning and teaching processes when they are well implemented in schools. Therefore it is mainly at the school and individual teacher point that changes may be needed. For some schools this will be huge adjustment while for others much of the step has already occurred. Fundamentally any change is aimed at improving the educational opportunities for all students and not just to make use of ICT. At all times the focus must be on improved outcomes for students and not on how the technology is used. Obviously we cannot be assured with the current educational outcomes for Malaysian students and the evidence is rising that we can make significant improvements with the suitable use of ICT. Large savings have been made in ICT for schools and there is a need to take report of how effective that investment has been and where further investment should be made to extend the effect of ICT on learning results for students. 2000 words

This quote from Orson Welles during an interview in 1982 produces questions about the career of one of the most celebrated filmmakers of the twentieth century. How could the director of Citizen Kane, the movie cherished as the best movie of last century, wished for his life to be void of the cinema? How could he wish to have continued in theater when most of the critical acclaim he experienced in that medium has been long forgotten? Most people do not even realize that Welles was an acclaimed director of theatre before Citizen Kane because Citizen Kane overshadows all of the rest of this genius’ work. Yet, Orson Welles’ theatre is just as important as his filmmaking because in all that he did, Welles exhibited the same artistic tendencies. His theatre was a unique experience and a creative achievement, but it also inspired his later work in films. The theatre of Orson Welles provides significant insight for an understanding of his films and what went wrong with his career in Hollywood. Orson Welles was born on May 6, 1915 to Richard and Beatrice Welles. His father was in the lamp trade, but Orson often referred to him as an inventor, needing to romanticize the role of his father. His mother was a beautiful woman who gave music lessons for a living. Welles was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, a city settled right next to the great Lake Michigan. Kenosha is an ordinary small Mid-West city, the kind that seems to mock the very idea of aspiration in its occupants. Orson Welles was frightened of being thought of as ordinary and was intensely annoyed with his parents for bringing him into the world in Kenosha, Wisconsin. However, in regards to this idea, Welles states, â€Å"I never blamed my folks for Kenosha- Kenosha has always blamed my folks for me†(Callow 3). Whichever way one looks at it, Welles did not belong in Kenosha with his intense opposite qualities to typical Mid-West life. When Welles was four, his parents moved him to Chicago. Chicago, which was still in the Mid-West, was worlds away from his life in Kenosha.

Heathcliff of Wuthering Heights Essay

Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontes only novel, published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. Wuthering Heights is the name of the manor around which the story centers. Wuthering is also a Yorkshire word which refers to turbulent weather. The novel tells the account of the sweeping and fanatical love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved obsession ultimately destroys them and others around them. The character I chose was that of Heathcliffs, around whom the story centers. The first paragraph of the novel provides a vivid picture of him, as Lockwood describes meeting him; â€Å"A capital fellow! He little imagined how my heart warmed towards him when I beheld his black eyes withdraw so suspiciously under their brows, as I rode up, and when his fingers sheltered themselves, with a jealous resolution, still further in his waistcoat.. †. (Bronte). The novel begins with his introduction into the Earnshaw family, his revengeful scheming drives the whole plot, and his death ends the book. The want to understand his complicated character and his vengeful motivations has kept incalculable readers engaged in the novels since its inception in the literary world. Bronte spun a complex Heathcliff who defies being understood, and the charm of this multifaceted character has fascinated readers and will continue to do so evermore. The novel torments the reader with the likelihood that Heathcliff is something other than what he seems – that his malice is simply an expression of unrequited love for Catherine, or that his menacing behavior serves to hide the soul of passionate hero. However, his malice proves so great and long-lasting that it cannot be sufficiently explained even as a desire for vengeance against Hindley, Catherine, Edgar, etc. As he himself points out in the novel, his mistreatment of Isabella is purely sadistic, as he amuses himself how much cruelty she can take and still comes back for more. Critic Joyce Carol argues that Emily Bronte does the same thing to the reader that Heathcliff does to Isabella, testing to see how many times the reader can be shocked by Heathcliff’s unwarranted violence and still, masochistically, insist on seeing him as a romantic hero. (Oates 48). Heathcliff arrived in the Earnshaw family by mere chance. Mr. Earnshaw found a boy who looked like a gypsy and had been apparently deserted on the streets of Liverpool. He brought the child home to join his own family and named him after his son who had died. All the members of the household were opposed to the introduction of the strange boy, in particular the Earnshaw children, who detested the darked-skinned Heathcliff. But Catherine quickly comes to love Heathcliff, and they become inseparable, spending many a day playing on the moors. After his wife’s death, Mr. Earnshaw begins to love Heathcliff to his own son, and when Hindley persists his cruelty to Heathcliff, Mr Earnshaw sends Hindley away to college, keeping Heathcliff nearby. Three years later, Hindley returns home after his father’s death to inherit Wuthering Heights and brings a wife with him. Hindley seeks revenge on Heathcliff. Heathcliff then finds himself treated as a common labourer, forced to work in the fields. Heathcliff leaves Wuthering Heights, staying away for three years, and returns shortly after Catherine and Edgar’s marriage. When he returns, he immediately sets about seeking revenge on all who wronged him. He lends large amounts of money to the drunken Hindley, knowing that Hindley will increase his debts and fall into deeper despondency. When Hindley dies, Heathcliff inherits the manor. He also places himself in line to inherit Thrushcross Grange by marrying Isabella Linton, who he treats very cruelly. Catherine gets ill, gives birth to a daughter, and dies. Isabella flees to London and gives birth to Heathcliff’s son, named Linton after her family. Isabella dies thirteen years later, and Linton comes to live with his father, who treats his sickly, whining son even more cruelly than he treated his mother. Three years later, young Catherine meets Heathcliff on the moors, and makes a visit to Wuthering Heights to meet Linton. She and Linton begin a secret romance, but it soon becomes evident that Linton is pursuing Catherine only because Heathcliff is forcing him. Heathcliff forces Catherine to marry Linton, who dies very shortly afterwards. Edgar is also dead. Catherine is forced to live as a common servant at Wuthering Heights, while Thrushcross Grange is rented to Mr. Loockwood. Although Catherine originally mocked Hareton’s ignorance and illiteracy (in an act of retribution, Heathcliff ended Hareton’s education after Hindley died), Catherine grows to love Hareton as they live together at Wuthering Heights.. Heathcliff becomes more and more obsessed with the memory of the elder Catherine, to the extent that he begins speaking to the ghost. Everything reminds of her. Shortly after a night spent walking on the moors, Heathcliff dies. Hareton and Catherine plan to be married, and they inherit Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange after Heathcliff’s death. The most hauntingly beautiful aspect about this novel is the extent of Heathcliffs love for Catherine even after her rejection of him (although she professed ever-lasting love) by marrying Edger. His love survives the rejection and continues undaunted. His loyalty to her is unwavering in spite of the emotional rejection. When Catherine falls ill, he exclaims that life without her would be hell. Her death kills his love for her and he focuses his existence on exacting revenge. His thwarted passion converts into an obsession for destruction and revenge. The love that Catherine and Heathcliff share is not mere romantic love; nor is it based on physical attraction. It is a coming together of souls, as they professed to be soul-mates. Heathcliffs motivations and brutality can be understood to some extent when one brings into consideration the cruelty he had to endure as a child at the hands of the superior richer classes. He becomes persistent, and anti social to protect himself from the humiliation suffered in his earlier years. He is the incarnation of pauperization masses rejected by the system as human refuse; and his revenge can be seen as that of accumulated class hatred which brings down members of the privileged social class. He was only a child when he wished to avenge Hindley; ‘I’m trying to settle how I shall pay Hindley back. I don’t care how long I wait, if I can only do it last. I hope he will not die before I do it. ’ (Bronte 64). The root of his bitterness is the consequences of the actions of the adults towards him. The recollection of the humiliation which he experience in his childhood left a devastating effect on him, impressed upon his soul like a heated iron; the undeserving spanking from Hindley and the contempt of the Lintons who exclaimed that there was no place for a gypsy in a decent house. Their daughter Isabelle, whom he later married, detested him and suggested to her father to throw him into the basement, while Edgar compared his hair to the mane of a horse. But the cruelest were Catherine’s words: ‘It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff now†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ (Bronte 80) The basic motivation of Heathcliff’s actions has a social background. From the beginning of the novel and most likely from the beginning of his life, he has endured rejection and pain. When he is brought to Wuthering Heights by Mr. Earnshaw, he is viewed as a thing rather than a child. The subject of revenge is so important in Wuthering Heights that it is compared to a renaissance tragedy of revenge: Admiration provoked by such a creature fascinates imagination and we are almost terrified by this creature, but still, he was added a trait of kindness which will make us feel compassion, almost respect. (Kovacevic, p. 268 ). Heathcliff’s character is emotionally explicable; from the first memories of Nelly Dean, his portrait was built in front of the reader. He was a sullen, patient child; hardened, perhaps, to ill-treatment: he would stand Hindley’s blows without winking or shedding a tear. Heathcliff’s revenge occupies the biggest part of the book. His hatred takes on sick proportions and includes even his own son Linton and Catherine’s daughter. His cruelty and embitterers were necessary to Emily Bronte so that his infatuation could be exaggerated to incredible proportions. In spite of that, Heathcliff doesn’t seem to be a man lacking a conscience or a pathological sadist. At the end of the novel, when Heathcliff’s revenge has subsided in the sequence of crimes, he suffered most: after Catherine’s death he is left without his life’s goal, unhappy, and wished for spiritual peace which only her grave could give him. ? Without even reading move on into the book, the audience mass feel the eerie aura that the witches give off. You squirt foretell that the witches atomic number 18 going to turn what is smashing, foul and maintain what is foul. The witches be saying that sensible and foul are the same to be fair, you must be foul and to be foul, you must be fair. The witches do foul things because they value it is the only fair sort. The witches basically symbolize everything that the kingdom does not requisite to prosper. The witches are manipulative. They manipulate Macbeth simply because his dip would bring them joy.Evil and foul prophecies leave cloud Macbeths judgment, making him think that they are fair and what he needfully to follow. They are foul in their motives alone their words are fair and their wordplay gitnot be defined as imposition but they skillfully dance most the truth. To the witches foul is fair and vice versa. You can in addition say that what is foul to whatsoever normal human is what is fair and good to the witches because they embody everything that we believe is evil. You can stir the phrase to reality or only when believe that this is the witches opinion. Relating to real life away of the book, I believe that this quote can mean that sometimes do be fair and just you eat up to go about it in a way that isnt fair and just. Justice has to be attained, sometimes, by unjust means. It can also mean that the truth hurts and life is not fair, also to be fair is not to be appealing.These two words are opposite of their meanings. Depending on a individuals definition of fair and foul, it can transform its meaning. It is circumstantial, and the meaning can change fr equently. Defining fair as likable and good and foul as evil and menacing, you can say that to be good, you prevail to be malicious and to malicious you have to go about it in a good and nice way. Some things that are fair might not of all time be the best but things that are fair might always be what a somebody what a person wants. Also, it could mean that people and things arent as they seem. People who seem foul could be fair and people who seem fair could be foul.
